The number of fatalities and injuries on vessels in the Australian fishing and aquaculture industry is unacceptable and should not be tolerated. Whilst working at sea is inherently dangerous and some incidents are unavoidable, many fatalities and accidents could have been avoided if individuals were more aware, better prepared, or took greater care. There is a clear need to improve safety performance in the fishing and aquaculture industry and ensure that workers in this industry come home safely.
